Platinum Eagle Coin Facts. The Platinum Eagle was first issued in 1997 and comes in one-tenth ounce, one-quarter ounce, one-half ounce, and one ounce coins.
Since 1997 Platinum Eagle coin features the John Mercanti designed “Lady Liberty”.
Beginning in 2006 the reverse side of the coin is being adorned with 3 designs honoring the 3 branches of government. 2006 was the Legislative; 2007 is the Executive branch; and 2008 will be the Judicial branch.
The reverse was designed by Thomas Cleveland and engraved by Phoebe Hemphill. 1.07 Million platinum coins have been minted since it’s introduction in 1997. See our Eagle mintage charts for more information.
